i mean just calm music. or music with no bad lyrics. because tv and video games both havve lots of music and most of which are innocent. is it ok if i listen to them. not music with horrible disgusting lyrics. is it ok?
also i read somewhere that playing chess or any other board game *and possibly video games because well it is a game* is haram in islam. is this true? because i love board games.
Salam, The only thing that's bad is what harm you. Listening to Music therapy and playing Chess which is a gymnastic to a healthy brain is good.
Religion and realistic stuffs are separate issues, ok? If they say it's "haram" to listen to music, then you should colisten to musicnsider it "haram" to listen to Islamic songs. Best not to mess around with inconsistent so-called "fatwas".

Now, whats bad about music is that its magical, what I mean by that this is, for example: When you listen to a music you love soo much, you would be somewhere else, you would forget about relality and begin living in dreams and fanasty, then when you stop the music and return to the world you are in, you would be bombarded by it. Thats whats bad in it. It makes you forget about relality. Now, I don like answering Fatwa questions because Im not a Imam or a shiekh and I try my beslisten to musict to avoid fatwa questions, is it halal , or haram I dont really know. But what I know Yaseen is this, that Islam is a peaceful religion and Islam never prohibits something to control your freedom, infact to have as beautiful life. Thats what I know, try asking an Imam. Yahoo is not a good place for Fatwa questions.

You need to tell your parents right away. You need to purify your soul for Allah and in the holy name of Allah. When I listened to music like this, I had to pray 10 times a day to help save myself. Do not be a disgrace to Islam. Stop before it is too late, son!
