I was listening to Human Nature the other day and couldn't figure out the exact lyrics at some parts. I went online to look at them - the part is "if they say why, why, tell 'em that it's human nature, why, why, does he (?????) that way. The lyrics website say "do me that way" but that doesn't make sense to me. I hear "does he do it that way." Am I ridiculously mistaken, does that actually make sense? I know MJ was known for substituting words/alphabets to make em sound right..... any thoughts?
This is my favorite of Michael's songs.
Yeah, that's the right line: "Why does he do me that way?". I always thought it was in referenmj human nature lyricsce to the way people tend to mistreat each other (which seems to be human nature), and that the song as a whole seemed to be about a certain kind of youthful exuberance that might leave others (a hopeful lover?) left in the cold. The song's protagonist seems to be interested in the thrill and excitement of the city (whichever one it might be) and whatever people (women...?) it might bring to him, and I imagine that might lead to a lot of unrequited emotions. Those people (women...) are the ones wondering what's up with our restless protagonist.
I didn't know about the song being for Mr. Porcaro's daughter, that's cool. If this is true, then even still I can seemj human nature lyrics this interpretation working-- don't know how old she was at the time, but young people do a lot of stupid stuff to each other when they're in relationships.
I think the way I hear it when Michael sings it slightly alters the meaning though, just a smidge. It's a little more mature. I've heard people say it makes them think of a one night stand.
Yeah that is what it says.
It was written by Toto member Steve Porcaro and John Bettis.
Porcaro originally wrote the song for his daughter. He explained: “Something had happened at school and it just inspired me.”
